Nestled in the heart of Ubud, Komaneka at Monkey Forest is a true sanctuary that offers the soothing serenity of nature. Whether it’s the warm, welcoming staff or the expansive gardens that offer a quiet escape, this hidden gem provides the perfect balance of comfort and serenity of nature surrounding the properties.
Check-In
From the moment I arrived, the check-in experience was seamless. Though I had arrived two hours early, the staff immediately set to work preparing my room, which was ready in just fifteen minutes. The promptness was unexpected but much appreciated, setting the tone for a stay that would be effortlessly relaxing.
First Impressions
The moment I stepped onto the property, the lush garden surrounding the hotel felt like stepping into a serene oasis.

The vast, inviting pool area immediately caught my eye, and the sense of space between the buildings only heightened the feeling of peace and privacy. This wasn’t just a hotel—it was a carefully curated experience, designed with ample space to breathe and unwind.

The room
My room was more of a spacious suite than just a hotel room, with every corner thoughtfully designed for comfort and style. A hall with a wardrobe area. A bathroom that could easily double as a small spa—about 20m², with a freestanding bathtub, a separate rain shower, and a sleek toilet.

The large four-poster bed added an elegant touch, and the floor-to-ceiling windows opened up to a veranda facing the serene rice fields. However, the distant sounds of a nearby construction project were a minor disturbance during the day. The staff offered another room to accommodate my needs. The little touches—like a handwritten postcard on the bed from the staff, a neatly folded pair of pajamas, and slippers placed in front of the bed—made me feel truly welcome.
The hotel garden
The garden was an oasis of tranquility, with meticulously manicured lawns, vibrant jungle plants, and soft, ambient lighting that gave it a magical quality in the evenings.

There was a sense of spaciousness here, with plenty of room between the buildings, allowing for quiet reflection as you wandered the paths.

If the walkways had a slightly more organic, natural flow, this garden would be a flawless 10 out of 10. Still, it was undeniably beautiful and well-maintained, inviting peaceful moments of connection with nature.
Breakfast
The breakfast had an impressive variety of options—from fresh fruit and local pastries to more substantial dishes—I was spoilt for choice.

Each dish was as beautifully presented as it was delicious, making for a satisfying start to my day.
Location
Komaneka at Monkey Forest is ideally located, nestled in the heart of Ubud. The hotel is just a stone’s throw away from the vibrant Monkey Forest Road, where you’ll find an abundance of restaurants, boutiques, spas, and cafes. The area is lively but not overwhelming, offering the best of both worlds—serenity and the pulse of Ubud’s thriving cultural scene.

While inside the hotel premises views of jungle and rice fields prevail.
Yoga
In the morning, I joined the complimentary yoga class offered by the hotel. The instructor was skilled, guiding a series of mindful movements that complemented the tranquil surroundings. The yoga space, located adjacent to the spa, had a calming atmosphere that further enhanced the experience. It was the perfect way to start the day and set a peaceful tone for what lay ahead.
Service
What truly set Komaneka at Monkey Forest apart, though, was the service. The staff were not only friendly but also genuinely attentive, taking the time to make sure every need was met. From offering alternative rooms to going out of their way to ensure my comfort, it was clear that they cared deeply about the guests’ well-being. It was this level of personal attention that made my stay feel not just like a hotel experience, but like being welcomed into a thoughtfully curated world.
